Jonathan Broder is a freelance journalist based in Washington, DC., covering defense and foreign policy. Previously, he worked as a senior writer for Newsweek and a senior editor for Congressional Quarterly. Before returning to the United States, Broder worked for two decades as an award-winning foreign correspondent for the Chicago Tribune and the Associated Press, covering stories in more than 50 countries throughout the Middle East, South Asia, China and East Asia. His writing also has appeared in The New York Times Magazine, The Washington Post, Smithsonian Magazine, and the World Policy Journal, among other publications. He is a frequent commentator on the BBC, Voice of America, Al Hurra television and CGTV.
