Shreya Bose

Hey there, my name is Shreya. Ever since I can remember, all I've done is read and write.

I'm a writer, and sometimes an editor. I've written about everything from heavy metal to software testing tools to portfolio building (at Authory) to email marketing. I've even spent three years as an archivist of rare historical texts and materials at the School of Cultural Texts and Records, Jadavpur University.

I've been writing professionally since 2017, and it has been a ride. Honestly, I never thought I'd write for software products, but the opportunity to do so literally came to me in 2019.

What I'm doing now

I've been writing professionally since 2017, and it has been a ride. Honestly, I never thought I'd write for software products, but the opportunity to do so literally came to me in 2019.

After a long stint as a full-time employee, freelancing... happened to me. Around March 2022, I quit full-time work because my health demanded it. NGL, I was terrified. I had never been "unemployed" in my life.

Thankfully, quite a few friends (not "connections" but actual friends I made at my jobs) came to my rescue. Protim Bhaumik, my ex-and-current manager invited me to write for Authory as a freelancer, and it was a perfect fit. Nirnai Nevrekar, my ex-manager from BrowserStack (where I worked for nearly 3 years) helped me start writing for Sprinklr. And, Sneha Ramesh is the reason I've been able to pursue my love of music journalism at The Score Magazine. You can also find some of my pieces on software testing on the BrowserStack blog and the TestRail blog.

Or, you could just look at my Authory portfolio and see all my pieces on different publications on a single screen!

Of course, these are not my only clients. But I'm ghostwriting for the others so 🤫

How I got here

After my stint as an archivist, I started writing for Netscribes India, a fairly well-known content agency in my hometown. It was a pretty good gig, but I decided that I wanted to move to India's biggest and most vibrant city, Mumbai. Honestly, I moved to Mumbai mainly because I wanted to expand on my music journalism, and ALL my favorite artists either live in that city or perform frequently.

Mumbai was also my best bet at catching artists like Jacob Collier and BB King live (watching them IRL made me openly weep, I promise). So, I started my three glorious years in Mumbai with a content writing role in Zirca Digital Solutions. And then came calling BrowserStack.

My job at BrowserStack was not only fun but also pushed me into a completely new domain — software testing. I barely knew what software meant (the fuzzy thing in my phone) but they still hired me. I think it's because I was genuinely interested in the concept — seriously, I had no idea software needed testing. I honestly think I asked more questions than the interviewer, and it might have helped.

I spent the next couple of years throwing myself into learning about QA, testing, and the generalities of software development. I only have a layperson's understanding of these ideas, but my constant focus on research (I was a Lit grad) came in extremely handy. I was able to write articles that readers in that industry actually liked. Imagine that.

Next, I spent a few months at 100ms, another software-based startup. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to stick around too long because of my health, and as I've already mentioned, I had to quit.

And, here we are.

The human stuff

Outside of work, I have an uneventful but happy life. Working from home is perfect for an introvert like me, and I really appreciate being able to do mid-afternoon yoga.

Thankfully, I have all my friends to keep me from becoming a recluse, so you'll find me at a museum, a gig, or an old food joint on the weekend. You can also find me at my friends' houses, eating their food with very little shame.

Obviously, I listen to music half the day and have recently returned to anime. I blame Jujutsu Kaizen. Thanks, Gojo.

I'm also a big fan of meditation and yoga, having spent my twenties treating my body and mind terribly.

Lastly, I've become quite a fan of travel, hiking, and trekking. I live in India, and I couldn't finish everything there is to see and climb in many lifetimes. So, I'm all set.

(You probably know about Himalayan treks, but have you considered trekking in the Northeastern states of India? You should. Talk to this guy about the David Scott Trail and the Rainbow Waterfall Trek in Nongriat, Meghalaya. You'll never dream of anything else once you see these forests.)

Apologies. I'll reply as soon as I have bars.
