Experienced Insurance Executive with a Global Perspective

After more than forty years in the insurance industry—much of it focused on international property and casualty—I feel fortunate to have had a career that has taken me around the world and introduced me to a wide range of people, challenges, and opportunities. From my early days in Chicago with Rollins Burdick Hunter to my time in New York and later overseas with Aon’s global acquisition and integration team, I’ve had the chance to work on complex multinational insurance programs and contribute to the growth of international operations in Europe, Scandinavia, the UK, and the Middle East.

Later, I was responsible for managing Aon’s Strategic Underwriters International MGA, which specialized in unique coverages like kidnap and ransom, workplace violence, and political risk. These roles deepened my understanding of how insurance operates not just as a financial product, but as a strategic tool for managing uncertainty across borders.

Today, through Insurance Services Network, I continue to advise on program design, compliance, and regulatory matters. But perhaps most rewarding is my role as editor of the Insurance Research Letter (IRL). This publication, founded in 1966, gives me a platform to share insights, ask questions, and highlight developments that matter to brokers, underwriters, and risk managers worldwide.

More than anything, the IRL allows me to give back to an industry that has given me so much—by helping others stay informed, see the big picture, and make better decisions in an increasingly complex world.

Having spent most of my career as an international insurance broker, I now balance ongoing consultancy and reporting with personal pursuits such as oil painting. While continuing to learn the intricacies of art, I value the discipline and focus it brings, complementing my enduring engagement with developments in the global insurance landscape.
