Shauna's professional writing career began in the early 1980s as a copywriter for the local South Florida market while working part-time as a weekend DJ for a Miami-based Christian radio station. Her TV commercials were aired on area network affiliates (ABC, NBC, CBS). Shauna’s work was also seen nationwide when she worked for an advertising company that catered to the banking and automobile industries. After a few years in the business she left the field (for personal reasons) and stepped into the world of construction accounting. During this time she married, had a son and raised her family. In the latter part of 2012 Shauna left the corporate world to pursue her dream of becoming a freelance writer. In 2013 she self- published a book of original poems called, Hearts and Rainbows - a Poetic Look at Life (available on Amazon.) For financial security, she reverted to working outside the home in 2015. From 2011 to 2022, Shauna was a regular contributor to HubPages.com, a revenue-share writers’ platform. In December 2023 she retired from the external workforce and is now free to fly on the wings of her creative spirit.

Why I Do What I Do

I’ve been an avid reader since I learned to sound out letters that form words. I loved how reading took me from reality to the faraway places skilled authors took me. That led me to writing when I was still in elementary school. And I never stopped. I’ve written poetry, short stories, and fiction. My favorite genre is paranormal fiction because that’s what I choose to read. But I started out with poetry as a way to express my feelings as I went through the various stages of girl/adulthood.

No matter where I was in the process, I had the annoying habit of correcting peoples’ English. English, ( I think in today’s schools it’s referred to as “Grammar”.) Creative Writing Math, and Psychology were my favorite subjects in school.

To this day, I find myself verbally correcting news commentators, TV commercials, and radio ad grammar and sentence structure.

Annoying, right?

Anyway, back to my story: In 2011 I began posting articles on a multi-author platform and was quite successful; I gained followers that looked forward to what I’d come up with next. The comments I received on my posts inspired me to keep on keepin’ on.

Then, requests to edit fellow writer’s articles and short stories came pouring forth, and my editing/proofreading business was launched. I received referrals from satisfied customers and started to gain a reputation in the indie-author world.

It was there I found my comfort zone.

My muse isn’t always available to me as a writer, but I don’t miss her as much as I thought I would—or that she would like me to!

I’ve found that editing and proofreading keeps me in the creative realm that is my soul but doesn’t pressure me to perform. Rather, helping writers and business owners perfect their vision is what tickles my fancy.

I have also discovered that my creative prowess with words can gain clientele for professional service providers who excel at what they do but can’t articulate to the public in ways that prospective customers will understand. I bring personality and clarity to the written word. Together we’ll make you stand apart from the crowd. I want you to shine the light you’re meant to bring to this world.
