Sergio Galanti — Author
Sergio Galanti writes about watches as cultural, historical and economic objects.
His work examines the forces that shape contemporary horology: the rise of independent watchmaking, the construction of value and reputation, the behaviour of collectors, and the narratives through which watches acquire meaning beyond their mechanical function.
He is the author of Against the Grain: A Cultural History of Swiss Independent Watchmaking, a study of the independent watchmaking movement from the 1990s to the present day. The book traces the emergence of a generation of watchmakers who challenged the industrial logic of the Swiss watch sector and helped redefine ideas of authorship, craftsmanship and value in contemporary horology.
His current research continues to explore the relationship between watches, markets and collector culture, with particular attention to the way certain watches become symbols, cultural references and objects of desire.
