Here’s the real story on storytelling. It’s what journalists do. We research. We interview. We weave details from multiple sources into a narrative that enlightens or entertains the reader – or both.

We introduce readers to new things, or show old things in a new light. And we remind readers that, behind all things are the people who designed, built, maintained, preserved or restored them.

Those are the kind of car stories I write, whether I'm writing about the auto history, business, or culture. I dig into the deeper stories behind the cars. I look for the human connection. What makes some people devote much of their lives to preserving classics like Corvettes, Ferraris and Porsches? And, who are the unknown heroes rescuing forgotten cars like the AMC Gremlin, Chevy Monza and Chrysler K-car and Pontiac Fiero?

My storytelling skills are anchored in real journalism, including The New York Times, BBC Autos page; enthusiast sites like Hagerty Media and Hemmings; business publications including Performance Racing Industries and AIADA Auto Dealer; consumer stories for CapitalOne Auto Navigator, along with single-marque niche magazines. This Authory portfolio includes a little over half of the bylined stories I've written over the past decade. Some of the magazines I wrote for are long gone, their archives not available on the internet.

That’s the editorial portion of my career. I’ve also got 30+ years of automotive PR and marcom experience with brands including BMW, Ferrari, Mercedes-Benz, Jaguar, Land Rover, Porsche, Lexus, Subaru and Toyota and others. (See my website, Audamotive.com, for more details.)

I began driving at age four (a Murray Fireball 8 pedal car). At the 1968 New York Auto Show, I snuck away from my father to get a better look at a Rolls-Royce -- from underneath it. When I was six, I could identify nearly every current American car and many popular imports -- some even by exhaust sound. I won some quarter bets naming cars not just correctly but their model years, too. (And I taught skeptical friends how to verify by looking for embossed model years in cars' taillights.)
