Data Reporter, The Detroit News
I’m a one-man data team at The News, balancing original reporting with ad-hoc data analysis and data visualization to support reporters around the newsroom. So far, I’ve:
- Exposed racial disparities in drug overdose deaths across Michigan;
- Found that most people ICE’s Detroit field office arrested had no prior criminal record;
- Revamped our election reporting system, automating the vote collection process with Python scripts and displaying results on our website in clean Flourish graphics.
I’ve occasionally appeared on the radio to talk about my work, including Michigan Public Radio’s Stateside program and JR Afternoon on WJR.
I was part of the April 2026 Dow Jones News Fund Early Career Training Program at the University of Maryland, College Park through the USA Today Network's Early Career Fellowship.
Data Reporting Intern, The Wall Street Journal
As part of the Journal's data team, I collaborated with reporters across the newsroom on analytics-driven reporting.
- I published an investigation into cannabis testing that revealed companies were putting employees and consumers at risk;
- Wrote a data-driven political analysis showing a widening "education gap" in Democratic support among Black and Latino voters; and
- Contributed to a story on Elon Musk's rise to power as part of a series that won the 2025 Pulitzer Prize for National Reporting.
Before the internship, I spent a week in New York City training with Prof. Sara Silver and the 2024 Dow Jones News Fund Business Reporting cohort.
Data Analyst, Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia
At the Philly Fed, I worked with a Research Fellow and the Director of Data Science and Engineering in the Consumer Finance Institute to identify the long-run impacts of racial housing discrimination in Philadelphia.
