just like how this city never sleeps, I also have trouble completely shutting down
I open my eyes and gaze into the open space
the faint neon lights spill in from the creak of the window
in the distance, the sounds of the ambulance remind me
that life is happening outside of this tiny bedroom
under the white sheets, I turn on my side to face you,
taking in all the peace that seems to envelop us
.
falling asleep next to you, my world goes quiet
you make me feel like only the two of us exist
that only the two of us really matter
that I actually mean something to you
.
your long, delicate eyelashes flutter every time you breathe
your crumpled hair, falling over your small, pierced ears
your vanilla perfume softly touching every inch of your body
your lips are perfectly parted, and I can almost hear you call my name through them
.
I try to reach out from the blanket to touch your cute nose,
but I catch myself, quickly sucked back into reality
.
I suddenly realize that I’ve never really seen you in bright daylight
or asked about what your favorite flavor of ice cream is
or hear you talk about your annoying day at work
or held hands outside of these cream-colored walls
.
falling asleep next to you, my world goes quiet
you make me feel like only the two of us exist
but do only the two of us really matter?
do I actually mean anything to you?
.
or am I just another warm body that replaces whoever actually has your heart..?
