Rue Mathur is a music journalist, broadcaster and writer based in Toronto. She began her radio career with CFRC Radio at Queen's University and quickly became an involved member of Kingston's art and music community. Often at a gig or behind a microphone, has had a passion for spotlighting the local music scene and believes radio should be about more than playlisting music: it is about connection and community.

Her efforts won her show 'Yellow Brit Road' the NCRA CRABO Award for Best Alternative Music show in 2023, '24 and '25.

Rue is also the founder of 'CFRC Live Sessions', a weekly show from 2023-25 with occasional broadcasts since, producing interviews and live music segments performed in CFRC's Studio A. Bringing together a talented team of artists, photographers, videographers and audio engineers to showcase the best of Kingston's music, this show won the NCRA CRABO for Local Talent Development in 2025.

Rue believes interviews are an opportunity to dive more deeply into music and the artists behind it, and her depth of knowledge and interviewing style has seen her compared to Canadian legends like Strombo, Tom Power and even Nardwuar.

She has interviewed Canadian stars like Arkells, Half Moon Run, Kevin Drew (Broken Social Scene), received on-stage shoutouts for her work, and worked with countless artists across Canada, big and small. She has also interviewed international stars like Nova Twins, NewDad, Gruff Rhys (Super Furry Animals) and has been invited to review gigs by Geese, Muse, The Last Dinner Party, Black Country New Road and more.

Rue is the founder and editor of Sounds Live! Magazine, a longreads digital publication covering music in Kingston and Toronto, as well as shows, reviews, releases and trends in music. She has also been an occasional contributor to music-related journalism features on BBC Radio Cymru, S4C video and news outlets like S4C Newyddion in the UK for coverage of Welsh and Welsh-language music.
