Hi, I’m Megan Shute.

I am a content strategist, editor, and writer with fifteen years of experience in traditional and digital media. I began my career writing and editing for various newspapers and magazines, and shifted towards digital media in 2015.

I spent the last nine years of my career working for travel and lifestyle website Only In Your State, where I started as a contract Hawaii writer before becoming an editor, working on various content strategy initiatives. In 2020, I became a salaried employee of Leaf Group (now World Of Good Brands) as an editor for Only In Your State, before receiving promotions to Senior Editor and finally, in June 2023, Manager of Editorial.

During my tenure, I implemented content management systems, ideated and curated large-scale editorial projects, and oversaw the creation of 1,000+ articles each month, amassing millions of page views along the way. I also ideated and curated award-winning editorial series and tentpoles, including Hidden Gems, Small Business Spotlight, Small Town Getaways, and Vacant.

In October 2024, just months after my family relocated from Baltimore, Maryland to Seoul, South Korea on military orders, I was laid off alongside several of my talented colleagues.

While I don't know what is next for my career, I live and breathe content strategy and management and can't wait to find a workplace where I can showcase these skills alongside my love for the written word.

Independent of my career, I love home renovation and DIY, personal finance, minimalism, devouring thrillers and romance novels, finding the best cup of locally-brewed coffee, and spending as much time in the mountains as I can.
