About

I have 25 years of experience writing features, profiles & website content for associations, colleges, schools, magazines and businesses. Writing was my second career, after spending 14 years as college alumni relations and fundraising professional, an odd choice for an introvert who's averse to mingling.

That experience led to my first two longterm clients, Advancing Philanthropy and CASE Currents, both international professional association magazines. Since those early years, my freelance portfolio has evolved and grown, resulting in an eclectic group of clients and writing on subjects ranging from donor recognition to TV show realtors to cardiac disease in great apes.

While writing for clients, I also started mining my personal life for stories that became personal essays, eventually landing a monthly community column for The Arizona Republic. That led to writing a humor column, The Homefront, for Angie's List Magazine. Since then my essays have appeared in numerous publications. They are my literary sweet spot -- both reading and writing them --- and everyone who knows me knows that "everything really is material."
