about me

I’m a freelance journalist based in Pittsburgh covering poverty, inequality, and the social policies that shape everyday lives.

Previously, I was at The American Prospect, where I reported on anti-hunger programs, reproductive rights, and the consequences of economic inequality. My work has also appeared in The New Republic, The Nation, The Progressive, Mother Jones, Capital & Main, and many others.

I’m also drawn to how place connects people and shapes communities. Alongside my policy reporting, I write about Pennsylvania’s culture, history, and travel for local outlets.

I hold a master’s degree in public policy from the Ford School at the University of Michigan, with a concentration in social policy. Originally from a working-class family in the Deep South, I grew up writing stories and developing a lasting love for tomato mayo sandwiches.
