A montage of the new Live A Live 32nd anniversary key visual, the ending screen of the anniversary Twitter Space by Tokita Takashi, and the usual Full Metal Fukumi layout with the favorite game characters bingo.

Asalam aleikoum how's it going.

Tokita Takashi (henceforth TokitaP) held a Twitter Space on September 1st 2026, chatting and counting down to the 32th anniversary of Live A Live on September 2nd. The space also featured a few guests hanging out with him, sporadically switching from listener to speaker.

When the clocks hit midnight in Japan, the official Live A Live Japanese Twitter account tweeted a 32nd anniversary illustration, drawn by Ikushima Naoki, a regular illustrator of Square Enix's HD-2D games. The tweet also mentioned that "TokitaP has a wonderful project in the works".

Near the end of the Twitter Space, a few minutes after the anniversary tweet was shared, TokitaP teased a little bit more details:

This project is something that he worked on for many years and should have been announced sooner, however "a lot happened", preventing the announcement.
The announcement could happen as soon as September 3rd 2026.
This is not something as big as a sequel project, or an anime adaptation, or a stage play adaptation, so temper your expectations.
This is something that will definitely please Live A Live fans.

As a side note, earlier on the Space, TokitaP also mentioned that the Live A Live remake sold pretty well. The original game at release only sold around 300,000 copies, but the remake has sold over twice that number by now. TokitaP explained that if the remake ever manages to reach one million copies sold, perhaps a sequel could happen. He jokingly mentioned how this is one threshold that hasn't changed, be it now or in the past, even if the game industry is quite different now.

(This reminds me of Xenogears' famous tragedy, how Squaresoft could have greenlit another game if it sold one million copies at release in Japan. The game's sales were around 100k copies short. If you speak French, you should definitely check out the Xenogears and Xenosaga book written by speedrunner and specialist KadMony.)

Overall, TokitaP thanked the fans always supporting the game. He mentioned he regularly checks out Live A Live related tweets to Like them. And how the remake couldn't have happened if not for fans sharing their enthusiasm on social media.

The Space itself was quite fun to listen to. The guests were Ousuke, Matsuno Yasumi, and Horiuchi Hayato.

Ousuke voiced Aki, Cesar and Yi Xi in the Live A Live remake. TokitaP and Ousuke explained that Matsushita Naofumi really appreciated Ousuke's voice acting in Live A Live and decided to ask him to return in The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales. (Matsushita Naofumi was assistant producer on Live A Live remake and producer on Elliot).

Matsuno Yasumi only stayed as a Speaker for a few minutes, congratulating TokitaP for the anniversary and mentioning they should go out for drinks again sometime. They jokingly noted they're getting older and older. Horiuchi Hayato (voiced Sun Tzu Wang) also only chatted for a few minutes near the Space's end. They were joking about making a Live A Live fighting game, with TokitaP saying they technically already did that with the original game. But maybe he'd do an "FPS chapter" among the chapters of a new LaL game.

(By the way, the Twitter Space title said "till 9:15" but that was obviously a typo. TokitaP meant to say it would last "till 0:15".)

Personally speaking, as a huge Live A Live fan who played the game for the first time with the remake, I am quite excited for this "new project". I assume this could be a DLC for the remake? Perhaps a new chapter? There is a State of Play on September 3rd, so this could be where Square Enix makes the announcement.

As a side note, in 2020 I also translated the Live A Live 26th anniversary stream, which featured most of the game's core development team. That stream was before the remake got announced. They shared some pretty interesting stories about the original game's development. You can read it on my portfolio. Keep in mind that I hadn't played the game myself yet at the time, only experiencing it via let's plays, so some parts were translated without full context.
