I’m an award-winning writer and reporter in the San Francisco Bay Area, who also serves as the Vice President of the Society of Professional Journalists, NorCal chapter.
I recently edited breaking news for SFGATE, and covered it for the Chronicle but I'm most known for my emphasis on schools and youth. That took off as a beat for me at the San Francisco Standard after covering housing and education for the San Francisco Examiner through the pandemic when attention to the local school board was at an all-time high. With all that time to spare, I also completed a long-term project as a USC Annenberg Center For Health Journalism’s 2019 Data Fellow on health access program Healthy SF tested by the pandemic.
Before my time at the Examiner and SF Weekly, I left for southern Minnesota during the advent of the Trump presidency and covered two towns in the same county with opposite takes on what it meant for the country.
I'm a proud San Francisco State University alumnus, having studied Race and Resistance Studies alongside journalism. I was raised in Southern California by Iranian immigrants and, once I stepped foot on campus, refused to let flip flops give my origins away and now arbitrarily complain about LA traffic like a true Bay Area resident.
