'Hunger never stops': What's in the $40 food boxes Iowa is giving instead of Summer EBT

Knock and Drop Iowa Executive Director Zuli Garcia and her team were geared up to shepherd hundreds of families into their food pantry at high noon on June 11.

It was the first day the Des Moines nonprofit, which mainly serves Latino clientele, was acting as a distribution site for Healthy Kids Iowa, a new state pilot program aimed at feeding children whole grains, proteins and produce during the summer months. Knock and Drop also agreed to store food allotments for three outside pantries in an effort to feed more children.
