Hi, I'm Bria Overs, a journalist and business reporter at The Baltimore Banner in Baltimore, Maryland. I write breaking news and enterprise stories about consumer issues and trends, small businesses and energy.

I was a Commonwealth Fund Fellow for #SABEW25 (Society for Advancing Business Editing and Writing) and part of the 2024 Covering Equitable Community Development Fellowship with the National Press Foundation.

Before joining The Banner, I was a finance reporter at Word In Black and a 2023-2024 Poynter-Koch Media Journalism Fellow. My work covered personal finance, financial literacy, small businesses, the economy, and the Black community. I was also fortunate to be a #SABEW23 Sho Fellow.

I moved to New York City in 2019 to join Business Insider as a Special Projects Fellow. I quickly rose to become a Special Projects Editor, and would spend over three years creating and managing numerous editorial projects that touched on personal finance, technology, small businesses, leadership and sustainability.

I launched my professional journalism career at the Los Angeles Wave Newspapers, a legacy paper in Southern California. I started as an intern and became a contributing writer, covering Compton, California.

But my path in journalism truly started when I served as Editor-in-Chief of The Bulletin, the college newspaper at California State University, Dominguez Hills. I earned my bachelor's degree in Communications, with an emphasis in Journalism, and even won the department's Outstanding Journalism Senior Award for the 2017-2018 academic year.

My work has been published on The Baltimore Banner, Word In Black, Business Insider, Insider, Rewire.org, the Los Angeles Wave Newspapers, the Beachcomber, and ENTITY Mag.
