Detroit City Council President Mary Sheffield won all but 30 of the 400 precincts where votes were reported in Tuesday's mayoral primary as she looks toward a November general election against runner-up the Rev. Solomon Kinloch Jr.
Sheffield and Kinloch fared better in parts of Detroit where residents aged 25-44 make less than the city's median income, according to an analysis of both precinct data and U.S. Census tract information. Former Detroit City Council President Saunteel Jenkins, who finished third with 16% of the vote, performed better in wealthier areas.
