Why We Should Connect

Maybe that ancient Native concept
is true,
that every moment alive, asleep or
awake,
we are, each of us, just one element,
one brief
moment in a long, evolving story that
lets us
enter each other’s dreams, realize our
purpose
true: to laugh, feel warm, even sad, so
our shared
experiences become part of each other’s
stories.

The Colors of Vacation

That particular blue
of a robin’s eggs
in the small nest.

The brilliant whites
of Portland:
snowcapped Mt. Hood

curved cut-outs
erratic apostrophes
on the pristine fence

to view pagodas in
the elegantly designed
Lan Su Chinese Garden.

Clouds hanging like
fluffy white ornaments
from a baby blue sky.

Stained glass windows
in Chateau St. Michelle
made brilliant azure

deep royal blue
at noonday. They are
a resurrection of sorts

buried for safety in WWII
darkened with decades
of black dust

discovered in the 70s
by someone looking
for something else.

Good Morning

Seeking the shadowed places
mutual gifts unwrap,
they fall away
spent.

She recalls the entrance,
the flights up, the view,
sounds, oh the sounds.
Longing

for the smell of him, pungent,
sweet she draws him back
like a dedicated
architect

outlining a perfect world:
the soft down on shoulders
curve of his broad back
hard thighs.

He glances at his watch, sighs,
returns to the blueprints she
sketched for him, re-discovers
every thing.
