No, but really. It’s hard.

By David Bushman and Arthur Smith

Twenty-six years after its 1991 cancellation by ABC, David Lynch and Mark Frost’s Twin Peaks — one of the most storied shows in television history — returns with brand-new episodes on Showtime this Sunday, May 21.

God bless Showtime.

We bow to no one in our appreciation of this estimable work of art (most of it, anyway), but refuse to indulge in any “It is happening again” or “That gum you like is going to come back in style” jokes, mostly because we’re beyond sick of them.

We contemplated greeting this second coming with silence — really, what’s left to say (have you seen the Internet lately?) ?— a scholarly article (nah), even an excerpt from our favorite Twin Peaks book (Twin Peaks FAQ: All That’s Left to Know About a World Both Wonderful and Strange), but in the end opted to just have fun with it.

Hence, The Toughest Twin Peaks Quiz Since the Dawn of Civilization (*Wink) — twenty-six questions, one for each year we’ve been waiting.

We thank the following aficionados for their contributions: Pieter Dom, Brad Dukes, Bryon Kozaczka, and Eben Moore, plus our awesome intern Rachel Golm.

Ready? Let’s rock.
