Gadigal/Sydney-based alt-rock genre-benders RedHook dropped the single Cannibal last month. Featuring Naarm/Melbourne metalcore titans Alpha Wolf the Stevie Knight (Stand Atlantic) produced track was mixed by James Paul Wisner (Underoath, Paramore and showcases RedHook at their teeth-gnashing best.

Cannibal is an unapologetically forward, dark and sexy industrial metal stomper inspired by both bands' collective vision to celebrate more sexual liberation, and particularly female sexual empowerment, in heavy music.

To celebrate the release of Cannibal and the upcoming Breaking Up With tour RedHook's vocalist Emmy Mack was 'naughty but nice' enough to curate a list of her favourite heavy songs to get down and dirty to.

RedHook’s Emmy Mack Shares Her Top Heavy Songs To Get Down & Dirty To

Heavy music is intrinsically sexy. It’s a genre that inspires both deep emotional connection and a cathartic release of energy, which can at times feel animalistic, almost primal. Voices that growl and howl and scream. Loud, aggressive rhythms that pulsate within your core. Lyrics that penetrate - deep.

It’s music that physically rocks your body while wrapping a two-handed grip around your soul.

So it’s no surprise that these same sonic characteristics that routinely trigger sweaty, heaving mosh pits and other adrenaline-fuelled antics to erupt in the live arena, can be every bit as powerful when applied to the bedroom.

RedHook had this in mind when we wrote Cannibal, our recently-released collab with the legends in Alpha Wolf, which, in its purest form, was intended as a song that people could fuck to.

Cannibal, like many other slutty metal songs, best soundtracks a particular kind of sex. Sex that is intense, wild and untamed. That is exquisitely rough, consensually aggressive and kinky. That feels both achingly magnetic and powerfully urgent, as if achieving that singular physical and spiritual connection was suddenly a matter of life and death. It was written for two (or more) people who want to - who need to - completely devour each other.

And to celebrate its, er, arrival… MANIACS have given me the honour of crafting a Spotify playlist filled with other sexy heavy bangers for you to sink your teeth into. From the intoxicating industrial kink of Deftones, Nine Inch Nails and Crosses; to the dark romance of Sleep Token, Bad Omens, Spiritbox and Dayseeker; there should be plenty of musical inspiration on this beautifully filthy mixtape to soundtrack your next carnal binge. Bon Appétit!
