Bill Holland (billybuc), who most of you know here on Hubpages, has offered a writing challenge. I am always up for a challenge so I am responding to his. He has given his writers four images or photos to include in our writing which you will see throughout my response.

He is asking for short story fiction or flash fiction, but for some reason I am in poetry mode right now. So my response is a poem. For some reason this poem came through me when I viewed his images and I had to write it down and share.

So, although this is not exactly what he asked for, this is my creative response to his challenge!

The ancestor's graves
The ancestor's graves
The ancestor's graves
The railway cars.
The railway cars.
The farmland.
The farmland.

The Art of Poetry Writing: A Guide For Poets, Students, & Readers

Sugar Mountain

Stretching my body up through

the clouds top Sugar Mountain

While the mist crystalizes

like sugar drops around me

Sweetened echos from the past

speak to me as I reach the summit

I have followed in the footsteps

of my ancestors as they once

climbed the mountain

Beginning my journey with a

pilgrimage to their graves

I listened as they whispered

their inspiration to me

"Climb, climb, climb the mountain,"

they repeated. "It is your mountain

to climb. Claim its message."

The old railway cars that now

sit at the base of the mountain

Once creaked and groaned up

the mountainside like a

ribbon threading through

the mountain

Today, lay dormant, their stories

silent and forgotten

So I climb

like those before me

To the summit to pay homage

to the mountain they so

sweetly loved

For the protection it gave to their

farmland below

Today, as I stand straight and tall

the echos of the past speak to me

in strong voices

Ensuring me their legacy of the mountain

with all its wisdom, teachings, and protection.
