Every October, South County’s farms kick into high gear, sharing their harvests amidst a backdrop of golden hues. These farmlands (and farm stands) can check every box on your fall bucket list, offering food, atmosphere, and entertainment. Below is a season’s worth of picking, browsing, and family fun across the region, along with hours, contact information, and the special events worth checking out.
Narrow Lane Orchard
Owners Stephen and Sharon Grenier bought this 30-acre orchard in 2004 to save it from development, and it has since grown into one of South County’s most popular pick-your-own spots. The orchard offers more than 20 varieties of apples, as well as peaches, nectarines, blueberries, kiwi berries, and blackberries. Visitors fill their own peck bags (10-12 pounds, enough for up to four pickers) or half-bushel bags (20-22 pounds), then can wander a mile-long nature trail and take photos with McIntosh, the orchard’s eight-foot wooden sasquatch. Apples run through peak season into October, with pickable varieties changing week to week.
The farm stand sells fresh apple cider, jams, and honey alongside seasonal fruit, and the orchard has recently begun offering a small pumpkin patch. Narrow Lane is a lower-key alternative to South County’s festival-style farms, better suited to a quiet afternoon of picking than a full day of activities.

Spring Hill Sugar House
Better known in late winter for its maple syrup demonstrations, this 22-acre Richmond farm run by the Fountain family shifts gears every fall for pick-your-own pumpkins and a corn maze with a new theme each season. Visitors can walk into the field and cut a pumpkin right from the vine, or shop for pre-picked pumpkins and gourds stacked in baskets around the farmstand. Opening weekend, the weekend of October 19, features Farm Fest, with farm-related attractions for the whole family.
Fresh-pressed apple cider is sold throughout the fall, and the farm’s maple syrup, its original claim to fame, is available year-round.

Manfredi Farms
Three generations of the Manfredi family have farmed this Westerly property, known locally as “The Corn Place” for its roadside sweet corn stand. In the fall, it becomes a seasonal destination centered around an eight-acre corn maze and pumpkin patch. Pumpkins are available to pick or buy, and a petting area allows visitors to feed donkeys, goats, sheep, geese, ducks, chickens, and a Scottish Highland cow.
Weekend hayrides run throughout the season, and the farm stand sells fresh produce along with jarred products like apricot, peach, and pumpkin butter. Play and picnic areas give families space to linger, and a banquet area on the property hosts private events. Visit the farm’s Facebook page for October hours and festival dates.
