Shawarma Shop Named ‘October 7’ Opens in Jordan

A shawarma shop named October 7 has opened in Jordan, an apparent homage to the Hamas-led massacre in Israel that saw hundreds of civilians kidnapped, burned, raped, tortured, and murdered that day.

A shaky, hand-held video posted approvingly to X by an Islamic activist shows the storefront, with cooks preparing shawarma sandwiches with meat roasting on tall spits, and the shop jammed with men and boys.

Israelis were quick to condemn the sickening notion of celebrating the worst attack on Jews since the Holocaust.

“The disgraceful glorification of October 7th has to stop,” said opposition leader Yair Lapid. “The incitement and hatred against Israel breeds the terrorism and extremism which led to the brutal massacre of October 7th.”

Lap[id said he expects the Jordanian government to condemn the shop “publicly and unequivocally.”

An Australian poster to X, who uses the handle Dreamr, summed up many commenters’ anger at the shop naming itself for such a horrific event:  “It's an evil beyond what Westerners have ever imagined. Even the Nazis and Marxists were never gleeful about their slaughters.”

The clip was posted Wednesday evening by Dima Tahboub, a former member of Jordan's parliament, writer, political analyst, and a member of Jordan’s Muslim Brotherhood, the conservative Islamist organization.

The shop is located near the city of Kerak near Jordan’s Dead Sea coast.
