Freelance writing has been at least one part of my income streams for nearly twenty years. Even though I currently spend most of my days teaching and coaching freelance writers, the basic question I get over and over is around “which niches are more profitable in 2022”?

There’s really no one answer to that. You have to factor in what you’re interested in, what you’re good at, and what readers want. But I’ve weeded through my bookmarks and spent some more time researching the internet.

Here are 5 More Profitable Niches for 2022:

· Solar Energy· Digital Marketing· Software as a Service (SaaS)· Education in 2022 is a More Profitable Niche· Video Script Writing

Solar Energy

This industry has been growing consistently over the last decade or so. Writing jobs for those who can explain solar energy in simple terms are in demand.

Where to Look: alternative energy publications, off grid magazines, renewable energy companies or organizations, survival websites or magazines, outdoors magazines, DIY sites, solar power panel manufacturers and equipment companies.

Digital Marketing

Businesses are using the internet to find new customers and sell their products and services in increasing numbers. This means many business owners have a need for digital marketing services. If you can write about digital marketing in a way that makes sense to less-than-internet-savvy business owners, you’ll find a plethora of writing jobs.

Where to Look: marketing agencies and companies, tech companies and magazines, shoulder topic websites with course offerings that depend on digital marketing for success.

Software as a Service (SaaS)

Technology continues to progress at a rapid pace and businesses are looking for new ways to effectively manage inventory, bookkeeping, order processing and numerous other business processes. Writers who understand technology and can write about it will do well in this industry.

Where to Look: tech companies and publications, financial companies and organizations, professional services practices (medical, financial, dental, accounting, office, etc.)

Education in 2022 is a More Profitable Niche

Recent events have created an increasing demand for content about education at all levels, including home schooling practices and systems. If you know where to look, you’ll find a plethora of writing jobs related to education.

Where to Look: High Schools & Colleges, shoulder organizations like tutoring companies/websites, online learning companies, home school organizations, homeschool curriculum companies, and educational focused facebook groups, youth camps, other job training programs, human services organizations, financial aid organizations/companies.

Video Script Writing

As more and more business owners realize that video is one of the best ways to get potential customers engaged, the demand for video script writing is increasing. Those who can write captivating and persuasive video scripts can write their own ticket in this industry.

Where to Look: training companies and organizations, any business involved in video marketing, small startups with limited time or skill level for video editing, and media companies.
