Somewhere in the static is the secret

Week 1 on Ozempic had me picking up lots of body signals

I feel like one of those old-time radios.

Ok, in my day it would have been a boombox. It’s amazing how we’ve evolved from wanting to carry around the biggest damn music box possible and a case of cassettes to one tiny item that fits in a pocket.

If you wanted to listen to Casey Kasem’s Top 40 (now I’m really showing my age), your favorite station or a ballgame, you tuned the station dial to just the right spot manually. Miss the sweet spot and once you break through the static you’re listening to Mozart instead of Madonna. Both are good, but when you expect one thing and get the other, it’s jarring.

You needed a light touch, especially for such a beast of a machine.

Making sense of the static

Nearly one week after starting Ozempic, I feel full of static noise.

Like all of the radio stations out there on the airwaves simultaneously, my body is throwing out a lot of signals. I can’t seem to clearly hear any of them.

After an initial bout of nausea on my first full day, I’ve been able to avoid that station for the most part.

And, even though I’m aware of the signals, I’m not exactly sure what I should hear. Knowing there’s something out there but just missing it is frustrating.

I sense I’m close to hitting the right frequency. An awareness of a definitive line between satisfied and full is starting to become clearer. It’s not quite there. Too much noise blending together.

Instead of thinking about food constantly, I notice that I go from not hungry at all for a long time to suddenly being very hungry. That’s when it’s harder for me to not cross that blurry line into being full.

As I go into week 2 on Ozempic, my goal is to keep dialing my brain in to see if I can pick up those cues more clearly.

There’s going to be a lot of trial and error. I know results will take time to show up.

So, I continue to wait and tune in to better understand what my body is telling me.

Until next time. I’ll meet you in the middle!
