ABC's thrilling procedural 9-1-1 has many allures, but one of the biggest is its multi-episode emergencies. The show has become famous for recreating disaster-movie emergencies, making every season premiere feel like an event. The series has tackled everything, from train derailments to tsunamis, volcanic eruptions, and even a cruise ship disaster. 9-1-1 is one of ABC's most popular shows, and naturally it has led to spin-offs.
The show's first offshoot is the 2020 series 9-1-1: Lone Star. The now-ended series is also a first responder drama, but it followed first responders in Texas. Like the flagship series, Lone Star also tackled multi-episode disasters. The second spin-off is the now-airing 9-1-1: Nashville, which also follows the same premise in Tennessee. The spin-off jumped straight in with a multi-episode tornado and stadium-collapse disaster arc across its first few episodes. In the series premiere, a powerful tornado tears through Nashville, hits a country music festival, and forces Captain Don Hart and Fire Station 113 into high-stakes rescue missions.
Naturally, the show's cast hasn't had as many disaster openers as the flagship series, with the spin-off in its second season. But when it happens, what emergency would be ideal? Collider's Maggie Lovitt caught up with series stars Hailey Kilgore and Juani Feliz for an episode of Collider Set Stories, and the multi-episode disaster question came up. Kilgore revealed that her ideal emergency would separate the team, forcing them to rely on their skills to save people when communication breaks down. "One of my favorite rescues/episodes from the original 9-1-1 is the tsunami episode," Kilgore said, referencing the multi-episode opener from 9-1-1 Season 3 that has ranked as one of the most popular emergencies ever done on the show.
Why Hailey Kilgore and Juani Feliz Would Like a Tsunami-Like Emergency.
"That was very epic," Feliz concurred. Kilgore explained that the allure comes from the sheer challenge of pulling off a rescue without the normal support system that makes the job easier for the team. "Something like that, where something epic has taken over this city — like a natural disaster type of thing. And all of us first responders are just living in our life; we feel like, 'I need to go out there and save people.' That's cool," Feliz explained.
Meanwhile, duty calls in this week's new episode when a "blinding agent strikes Nashville during a pollen storm, leaving Blythe and others critically ill. Rogue and the 113 race to find a cure and the source, while Sam and Roxie perform an emergency heart transplant. Blythe discovers Sam’s secret."
