Charles Soule has been writing with Marvel Comics for over a decade and has made many fans in that time. Starting with Thunderbolts Vol. 2 in 2012, he's had memorable runs with a wide range of popular superheroes, from She-Hulk to Wolverine and the Inhumans, as well as beloved works in the Star Wars canon, like Star Wars: Legacy of Vader and The Rise of Kylo Ren. He's most synonymous, however, with The Man Without Fear himself, Daredevil. Across three years from 2015 to 2018, the writer took a back-to-street-level-basics approach to Matt Murdock, depicting Wilson Fisk's rise to political power and introducing the demented serial killer Muse, both aspects among others that would go on to inspire Disney+'s Daredevil: Born Again.

More recently, Soule has worked in the realm of symbiotes, penning the three-part Queen in Black: Venom Unchained and gearing up for a new Venom run beginning on October 14. At the same time, he's also finishing up the final piece of his Kylo Ren trilogy, The Fall of Kylo Ren, which drops its third issue later this month. Collider's Maggie Lovitt asked the writer at FanX Salt Lake City what character is left out there in the Marvel or Star Wars universes that he'd still like to tackle if the chance arose. He couldn't help but feel lucky reflecting on his career and on every storied figure he's shaped the stories of, as he couldn't even think of anyone major from any era across a galaxy far, far away he hadn't touched in some way on the page.

"I've been so fortunate between all the work I've done," he said. "I've worked in every major time period in Star Wars, including being one of the architects of the High Republic, which is the newest era to open up. And there really aren't any significant characters that I haven't spent time with in Star Wars. The closest you could probably get is Han Solo, but even then, I've done some work with him." Penning Star Wars Vol. 3 for four years, in particular, gave him some wide-ranging experience in the universe. Still, there's one Marvel superhero that remains at the top of his wishlist if Marvel Comics would offer him the keys, and it's one a fellow Daredevil writer is currently working on.

"So really, you have to look at Marvel and the character that I really think I could knock out of the park if I ever got the chance to do it — and I hope Chip Zdarsky is listening right now — is Captain America. Because I don't know, I think this is obviously a very interesting time in America. I think there's a lot to be said. I think Cap, throughout the decades, has been a really... he's a great way to comment on and reflect on the things that are happening in the country, good or bad, at any given moment. And I would love the chance to do that. So you know, we'll see what happens down the road."

Soule hasn't been shy about his desire to work with Steve Rogers. He first made his hopes to handle the First Avenger known over a year ago with a joking dig at the Canadian Zdarsky writing an American icon. For the record, he, too, is a big fan of what the man behind "Devil's Reign" is doing with Captain America. "Chip is awesome," he concluded. "His run is awesome. I don't want to take anything away from him, kinda. But we'll see who gets it next."

For the time being, Zdarsky's run isn't showing many signs of slowing down. Not only is he penning Cap's future, but he's also in charge of Avengers: Armageddon, which will release its fifth issue on October 21. Captain America #16, meanwhile, will hit store shelves on October 28 and see Rogers in the middle of a fight for Hell's throne as the world teeters on the edge of Armageddon. With the effects of the war spilling out into the land of the living, time is of the essence to right his mistakes and prevent disaster. After that, a 17th issue is also set for November that will put Cap on the opposite side of Nick Fury and S.H.I.E.L.D. as one of his old foes shows up to get in his way.
