The Marvel project this year that everyone’s been talking about is Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and rightfully so. The film grossed over $2.5 billion at the box office and is now the highest-grossing movie in domestic box office history. Over on Disney+, Marvel has continued to release new shows and new seasons of established shows, with more content on the way later this year and in 2027. Coming before the end of the year is VisionQuest, which launches on October 14, and premiering in 2027 are new seasons of Daredevil: Born Again and X-Men ‘97. It was thought that Wonder Man would also be returning sometime in the next few years, but the show was cancelled after only one season despite originally being renewed.
Marvel recently held a TV panel at New York Comic-Con to promote and announce new projects, and one of the most exciting developments came when it was time to reveal new information about Marvel Zombies. Instead of Marvel Zombies returning with new seasons, there will instead be new Disney+ Specials each of the next three years, with The Winter Soldier airing in 2027, The Fist of Khonshu in 2028, and The Last Guardian in 2029. During a recent interview at NYCC after the panel with Collider’s Maggie Lovitt, when asked which of the new specials he was most excited about, Brad Winderbaum told Collider: “Well, we’re the furthest along on Marvel Zombies: Winter Soldier. But the premise of all three seasons is great, and if you’re a fan of the first season of Marvel Zombies, you’ll be very happy to see the story continue season over season.”
Brad Winderbaum Reveals What to Expect From ‘Marvel Zombies: Winter Soldier’
The first season of Marvel Zombies is one of the few Marvel projects to secure a TV-MA rating, along with Echo, Daredevil: Born Again, and The Punisher: One Last Kill. Continuing his conversation with Collider, Winderbaum teased that Marvel will continue this dark and violent trend with Marvel Zombies, which he reminds audiences is “the further along.” He says, “It’s scary, and it’s brutal, and it’s everything you’d want from a zombie show, but it’s maybe my favorite thing that Bryan Andrews has done since the Doctor Strange episode of What If…? It’s so emotionally driven and so beautiful that you forget you’re watching a zombie show at times.”
The Doctor Strange episode of What If…?, which was the fourth episode in Season 1, is one of the highest-rated episodes of the entire series. The installment chronicles what would have happened if Doctor Strange lost Christine Palmer in the accident instead of using his fans. This led him down a dark path that not only destroyed his universe, but others as well.
