It’s now been almost five years since Charlie Cox made his MCU debut alongside Tom Holland in Spider-Man: No Way Home, but he has since become one of the most recurring characters in the entire franchise. After showing up as the “really good lawyer” Matt Murdock in the third MCU Spider-Man movie, Cox returned as Daredevil in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law the following year. One year after She-Hulk, Cox also featured in one episode of Echo before reprising the role in animation two years later in Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man. It wasn’t until last year that Cox suited back up as Daredevil in a series of his own, Daredevil: Born Again, which has aired two full seasons to date with a third on the way sometime next year.

The biggest connection Season 1 had to Matt’s past was Frank Castle (played by Jon Bernthal) and Wilson Fisk (played by Vincent D’Onofrio), with a splash of Karen Page (played by Deborah Ann Woll). Frank Castle did not return in Season 2, but former Marvel Netflix star Krysten Ritter did reprise her role as Jessica Jones in the series, and Mike Colter even made an appearance at the end of Season 2 as Luke Cage. It’s already been confirmed that Season 3, which will also be the final season of the show, will feature a full-on Defenders reunion, with Cox, Colter, Ritter, and even Finn Jones as Iron Fist all back for one more run. During a recent interview with Collider’s Maggie Lovitt at New York Comic-Con, Cox teased the looming Defenders reunion in Daredevil: Born Again Season 3, explaining how different it felt to be back with the same group after all this time:

“It’s been so fun, and a lovely callback to 2016 and 2017. Which, because of COVID, felt like another lifetime ago. It’s so fun and such a great time. We’re all really fond of each other, and we have a lovely time on set. It felt like it was really earned and deserved, and really a full-circle moment.”

Is Charlie Cox Done As Daredevil After ‘Born Again’ Season 3?

Charlie Cox’s future as Matt Murdock beyond Daredevil: Born Again Season 3 is unclear, though it would be surprising if he wasn’t brought back in some capacity. One of his biggest co-stars, Jon Bernthal, was just used as an exemplary supporting piece in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. If Cox does the same and suits up as Daredevil opposite Tom Holland in Spider-Man 5, fans could expect it to be an absolute smash hit, possibly even in the same air as Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
