Tomorrow the HRM municipal election takes place. As Vice-Chair of the Halifax Military Heritage Preservation Society, I and my fellow directors released a 'reality check' statement to all the candidates regarding the recommendations of the Task Force on the Commemoration of Edward Cornwallis and Recognition and Commemoration of Indigenous History. The Task Force report did not reflect a balanced, impartial nor objective assessment of Edward Cornwallis or recognized the complex historical narratives (indigenous and non-indigenous) of those early settlement times.
