The general election is Nov. 5, and the presidential race is gaining the most attention. However, for Arizonans, there are some really important races down your ballot that you don't want to skip over.
In Maricopa County, in particular, there are four races worth your attention:
- Maricopa County Recorder Stephen Richer, a Republican, lost his reelection bid in July. His office administers the county’s elections, and the winner will effectively run the 2026 elections in Arizona’s most populous county.
- All five seats on the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors are also on the ballot, but only two of those races are considered competitive. If Democrats win them, it could put the county under Democratic control for the first time in memory.
- The county sheriff is up for election.
- And the school superintendent is up for election.
In this episode of The Gaggle, hosts Ron Hansen and Mary Jo Pitzl sit down with The Republic's county watchdog reporter, and co-host of The Gaggle's Election Dissection series, Sasha Hupka.
