East York’s Children’s Peace Theatre hosts annual poetry festival

Some of Toronto’s best poets and spoken word artists are coming together for the 2014 East End Poetry Festival on Saturday, Sept. 13.

East End Arts, the Children’s Peace Theatre and the City of Toronto have invited a parade of poetic talent.

George Elliott Clarke, poet laureate of Toronto, is featured guest at this year’s festival and will be performing alongside local artists including the BAM! Toronto Youth Poetry Slam team, Dwayne Morgan, Randell Adjei and Rosemary Sullivan.

Kate Marshall Flaherty, founding member of the Children’s Peace Theatre and member of the Canadian Poetry Association, will be leading an all-ages poetry workshop.

The Emily Steinwall Trio has performed in many jazz festivals throughout the city and will be performing as featured musical guests.

There will also be various children’s activities, snacks and refreshments throughout the day.

The festival is free to the public, rain or shine. It will take place at the Children’s Peace Theatre at 305 Dawes Rd. from noon to 4 p.m.
