I've started exploring Pd. The dataflow programming environment is an inspiring place to be. And the more you learn, the more fun you can have generating and processing audio signals. Today's adventure involved making fire -- or more accurately, the sound of fire -- by layering noise-sourced, modulated, and filtered audio elements (see Takumi Ogata's excellent @Soundsimulator YT channel for details). The digital signal processed output is entirely synthetic, but definitely has atmospheric appeal. I've been playing the computer-generated campfire sound out of a portable speaker for hours.
Pd is an incredible sketch pad for testing device ideas, especially as Pd patches can be converted into C/C++ to pave the way for building embedded audio projects.
