Kurt Russell is bringing one of his most iconic movies to a new streaming home.

The Golden Globe and Emmy nominee has had a particularly busy few years on both the big and small screens, particularly with Apple TV's Monarch: Legacy of Monsters series, an extension of Legendary's Monsterverse, his first major TV role in over 40 years, and the Matthew McConaughey-starring neo-Western drama The Rivals of Amziah King. Russell also joined the roster of Taylor Sheridan's extensive TV works with The Madison, in which he'll return for season 2, while the show itself is renewed through season 3.

Now, as Russell gears up for the 2027 return of The Madison, he's about to extend his streaming presence with Miracle getting a new home. Helmed by Gavin O'Connor, the 2004 historical drama starred Russell as Herb Brooks, the head ice hockey coach for the University of Minnesota who successfully lands the job of the United States national team coach for the 1980 Olympics, and pushes his players through a series of grueling training and exhibition games to match up to the heavily favored Soviet team.

Also starring Noah Emmerich, Patricia Clarkson, Eddie Cahill and Patrick O'Brien Demsey, Miracle was both a critical and commercial hit at the time, with Russell, in particular, garnering rave reviews for his performance, and the film bringing in over $64 million against its $28 million production budget. In the 22 years since its release, the biographical sports drama frequently finds itself ranking high on all-time lists for the genre's best entries.

A little over a year after the 45th anniversary of the landmark story, Hulu has announced that Miracle is joining its library. Russell's beloved sports drama is set to premiere on the platform on November 1, while also currently being available to stream on Disney+.

Miracle joins a wide roster of new titles coming to Hulu in November, many of which are akin to Russell's classic in bringing a wintry atmosphere to viewers' homes going into the holiday season. Other notable additions include the star-studded comedy Almost Christmas, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary, ensemble dramedy The Family Stone, which is currently in production on a long-awaited sequel, Arnold Schwarzenegger's cult classic Jingle All the Way, the 1983 classic A Christmas Story, Vince Vaughn's Fred Claus and Tom Hanks' The Polar Express, among many others.

The Classic Sports Drama Was Part Of A New Era For Disney

When it hit theaters in 2004, Miracle notably marked an extension of a new era for Disney as, largely through their Buena Vista distribution banner, they ramped up their output on true-story-based sports dramas. The studio previously had plenty of success with more fantastical stories in the sports world, from the golden retriever-starring Air Bud movies to the Herbie the Love Bug franchise, though with the success of the first Mighty Ducks film, there was a shift towards more grounded plots.

This notably began with the Jon Turtletaub-helmed Cool Runnings, which became a critical and commercial smash, later building on this success with the Denzel Washington-starring Remember the Titans and Dennis Quaid-led The Rookie. Even after Miracle continued this streak, Disney enjoyed a string of subsequent hits in the subgenre, including Mark Wahlberg's Invincible, Diane Lane's Secretariat and Kevin Costner's McFarland, USA.

Given the feel-good nature of its story, and the 2026-27 National Hockey League season having just kicked off, there is a very good chance that Miracle's shift to Hulu could bring it a boost in popularity on streaming. Additionally, with Russell recently enjoying major success on VOD platforms with The Rivals of Amziah King, and The Madison season 1 breaking multiple records in its debut, it's clear audiences are still keen to tune in to the Golden Globe nominee's works.
