The Southeastern Conference fined the University of Kentucky $500,000 after fans stormed Kroger Field following the Wildcats’ 35-34 overtime upset of No. 10 LSU

The Wildcats’ dramatic overtime victory came with a hefty price tag, with the fine payable to LSU under conference rules.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB+WAVE) — Kentucky’s biggest football victory of the season came with a $500,000 bill.

The Southeastern Conference fined the University of Kentucky $500,000 after fans stormed Kroger Field following the Wildcats’ 35-34 overtime upset of No. 10 LSU on Saturday night.

Under the SEC’s policy governing access to competition areas, any violation carries a $500,000 fine. Because the incident occurred during a conference game, the money will be paid to LSU.

The league prohibits spectators from entering the playing field before, during or after games, citing the safety of players, coaches, officials and fans.

Kentucky fans poured onto the field after quarterback Kenny Minchey scored on a two-point conversion run in overtime, giving the Wildcats their second consecutive one-point overtime victory.

The win improved Kentucky to 5-1 under first-year coach Will Stein and lifted the Wildcats to No. 15 in Sunday’s Associated Press Top 25, their highest ranking since October 2022.

Kentucky travels to Oklahoma on Saturday for another SEC matchup.
