LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB+WAVE) — Louisville basketball will be without 7-foot-5 center Gabe Dynes for at least four months after the senior underwent shoulder surgery Tuesday.
The school announced Wednesday that the procedure was successful and Dynes is expected to make a full recovery.
The timetable would keep Dynes sidelined until at least late February, potentially costing him most of the 2026-27 season.
Dynes, a native of Independence, Ky., transferred to Louisville after spending last season at USC, where he averaged 2.9 points, 2.3 rebounds and one blocked shot per game while shooting 78.7% from the field.
Before USC, Dynes spent two seasons at Youngstown State, where he earned Horizon League All-Defensive Team honors twice. He led the nation with 104 blocked shots during the 2024-25 season, averaging 6.9 points and 5.8 rebounds.
A graduate of Simon Kenton High School, Dynes was expected to provide additional size and rim protection for Pat Kelsey’s Cardinals, who enter the season ranked No. 11 nationally.
Louisville has not announced whether Dynes will seek a medical redshirt or another season of eligibility.
