Keyword research has evolved to include prompt research. While you can’t peek into someone else’s actual AI chats, a good visibility tool can give you an idea of what your audience is asking.

As an SEO consultant and writer, I’ve long relied on tools like Semrush to help me figure out what people are searching for online. And with the introduction of Semrush’s AI visibility toolkit, I’m able to translate those traditional search queries into real AI prompts that I can target. But Semrush isn’t the only player in the market. SE Ranking, another reliable SEO tool, has introduced an AI search visibility platform of their own: SE Visible.

I’m going to break down how these two AI visibility tracking platforms compare so you can make the right choice for your generative engine optimization (GEO) needs and budget.

What is SE Visible?

SE Visible is an AI search engine tracking and visibility tool made by the same team behind SE Ranking.

The SE Visible homepage says "Get AI visibility you can act on" above an image of the tool dashboard.

You can easily toggle between SE Ranking, SE Visible, and the company’s other tools from within your SE Visible account—though you’ll need a separate subscription to each.

What is the Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit?

The Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit is a dedicated set of features within the larger Semrush platform.

The Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit shows overall visibility, mentions, citations, and other metrics in colorful graphs.

The toolkit integrates directly with your existing Semrush projects—so if you use the platform for traditional search engine optimization (SEO), pay-per-click (PPC) advertising, or social media work, then the AI Visibility Toolkit will be a useful addition.

Comparing SE Visible and Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit Features

The best way to determine exactly which AI visibility platform will suit your needs, however, is to compare them side by side. This analysis will focus on:

What information each tool provides about brand presence in AI-generated answers
What kind of information you can find about your competitors when using each tool
How easy or helpful each platform’s prompt research data is
The cost to use each platform

1. Answer Engine Data

SE Visible gives you access to five different answer engines’ data; the Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit includes data from four.

SE Visible	Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit
Data from:	ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode	ChatGPT, Gemini, Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode
Includes information on:	Mentions	Mentions and citations
Shows a brand’s:	Average position, share of voice, net sentiment	AI visibility score, audience size, presence in results by location

The two tools present this data in slightly different ways, too. SE Visible shows you the sentiment related to how each AI answer positions your brand—positive, negative, or neutral.

A colored donut chart shows the proportion of positive, negative, and neutral sentiment in LLM results.

Semrush, on the other hand, shows you how the frequency of AI mentions in LLM results across different countries.

A purple, green, and yellow bar chart shows mentions in LLM results by country.

The Verdict: If you’re heavily focused on customer experience and perception, then the sentiment data provided in SE Visible is useful. But if your brand is more interested in international expansion, then Semrush’s breakdown will work nicely alongside the platform’s country-focused SEO data. Personally, I wouldn’t pick SE Visible just for its Perplexity data, as Perplexity handles 100 million searches per week…and ChatGPT receives 2.5 billion prompts a day.

2. Competitor Research

You can also use both AI visibility platforms to research and monitor your competitors’ AI presence. Each tool will show you how many of your competitors appear in AI models’ results for specific target prompts.

SE Visible goes one step further and displays a list of your competitors by their share of voice—so you can easily see who is performing better and worse than you on average.

SE Visible shows your brand along with competitors in order of AI visibility and share of voice.

But Semrush has a unique feature too—an AI visibility competitor research tool that lets you conduct AI-focused prompt gap analysis. It works similarly to Semrush’s keyword gap tool, and I think it’s an excellent benefit for anyone trying to top a specific competitor in LLM results.

The Semrush AI visibility toolkit contains an AI gap analysis tool that says "find the gaps in your AI visibility."

The Verdict: SE Visible is a good choice if you simply need a top-level overview of your top competitors across answer engines. But if you’re developing a content strategy, Semrush’s AI visibility gap analysis features will be the better choice.

3. Prompt Research

Because generative engine optimization (GEO) focuses on prompts, not traditional keywords, both SE Visible and Semrush’s AI Visibility Toolkit let you browse what prompts are likely to drive traffic to your site. The tools auto-populate, and run, prompts based on topics associated with your domain.

Semrush displays AI prompts, responses, and brand mentions in a table format.

In my time testing different AI visibility tools, I found that these default prompts are typically branded—meaning that the visibility tool creates, runs, and displays results for prompts that include your company name.

Branded prompt analysis is great when you want to assess general brand presence and sentiment—but if you’re interested in learning how you’re mentioned or cited in unbranded, but topically related, prompts, you’ll need to find and add those queries manually.

The Verdict: Both SE Visible and Semrush’s AI Visibility Toolkit allow you to add and remove prompts at will. I prefer Semrush in this case, though. Easy access to keyword research tools makes the process of finding questions and potential LLM prompts much faster.

4. Price

SE Visible pricing starts at $79 per month when billed annually; access to the Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit is $99 per month, per domain. Here’s how the two AI tracking tool platform’s plans stack up in terms of data access and usage limits:

SE Visible ($79/Month Plan)	Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit
Number of domains / projects	Three	One
Prompts to track	200	25
Report updates	Weekly	Daily (up to 300 reports)

The Verdict: If you’re a freelancer or part of an agency and need to analyze multiple domains at once, then SE Visible is a cost-effective option. But Semrush’s daily updates can’t be beat—especially if you want to hone in one specific domain’s performance in AI results over time. Semrush also includes AI Visibility Toolkit access for one domain by default in every Semrush One plan, which makes it the more affordable choice when you need both traditional SEO and AI visibility data at once.
