So, it all started a decade ago when a Vancouver-based book agent, Brian Wood, whose clients mostly came from the sports world, reached out to ask me about writing a consumer advice book. He sold it to Wiley Canada, which released it in early 2013, just before announcing it was closing shop in Canada in favour of the US.
Welcome to eastern Canada, Brian. I didn’t know you’re now based in Guelph, Ont, and you’ve published three books of your own poetry. Congratulations.
And thanks to Andrew Applebaum for asking how my book came about. Seems the publisher suggested that he approach me, something I didn’t know at the time.
Take a listen to this podcast if you like books and wonder if you might have a book inside you that can eventually find an audience.
Me: "So for the Tie Domi book, did it come with crayons or did you have to purchase them separately?"
Literary Agent Brian Wood: "I'm going to pretend I didn't hear that question."
Me: "?????"
Literary Agent Brian Wood: "I am guessing you would not have said that to Tie Domi's face?"
Me: "You are correct, sir!"
[don't worry, it wasn't really that contentious! 😉 ]
