She is being pursued by bailiffs

Sheffield-based Excel Parking “must be aware of the double entry fault,” by now a motorist claims.

Gill Askem and her husband Steve parked at Fraisthorpe Beach, near Bridlington.

She bought a ticket for three hours and input her registration number. But a different one was printed on her ticket.

Excel Parking later claimed she had failed to pay and demanded £100.

It also sent her a list of transactions to show her number wasn’t present that day.

But Gill saw that the registration of the car before her was printed twice.

She appealed but lost.

Now she is being pursued for £160 from Excel-linked companies Direct Collection Bailiffs and Elms Legal.

It is the third example of alleged ‘double entry’ errors with Excel Parking machines.

Gill said the company must be aware of the problem.

She added: “Despite clear evidence during the appeals process they are still pursuing their claim so we can only assume they are ignoring the issue and continue to increase revenue through fines.”

The Star contacted Excel Parking, run by Simon Renshaw-Smith, for comment.

The Sheffield company also demanded £100 from Kelly Waterhouse claiming she had typed in the wrong registration number when paying £2.50 at Pennine Shopping Centre in Halifax.

Excel sued her, but the judge found ‘as a fact’ a machine was faulty and threw out the case.

In another case, Rebecca Muir refused to cough up £100 for allegedly not paying also at Fraisthorpe Beach.

She produced a bank statement proving she paid that day.

And she demanded records which she believed would show the previous driver’s registration number was applied to her transaction.

But Elms Legal abandoned the case without explanation.

Parking expert Lynda Eagan, who helps motorists fight Excel, said she had seen several double entry problems at Excel's sites and the only common factor was IPS machines.

In a message to motorists, she added: “Always keep your parking tickets a good few months, always post and email documents and always appeal as soon as possible.”
