Square Enix stole the show with its reveal of Project Athia.
Say what you want about the games that were announced during the PlayStation 5 reveal stream yesterday but I think Square Enix stole the show with their new game, Project Athia.
Of course, Square Enix being who they are, revealed a game with a working title and will probably update it in due time. Project Athia is coming from its newly established studio Luminous Productions and is currently in development for PlayStation 5 and PC.
A brief, minute-long teaser trailer was released but it certainly hypes the other-wordly adventure coming our way. Project Athia takes players on an action-packed adventure through a world filled with beauty and dismay, that can be “twisted, tempestuous and forbidding.” Square Enix specifically mentioned this will also be a story-led game, suggesting some breathtaking cinematic narrative experiences brought to life by Luminous Productions.
The company promises to deliver a “gaming experience like never before, fusing together the latest technology with art.” From the visuals and screenshots alone, this should be a heavily anticipated game that should do solidly on the next-generation console.
Given that Project Athia is still using its working title, it’s probably at least a ways off. The PlayStation 5 is set to launch this holiday season but odds are we won’t be seeing this until late 2021. That’s assuming there are no delays brought on by the ongoing coronavirus pandemic which has already caused multiple setbacks for developers.
Project Athia was one of 24 games announced for the PlayStation 5 and was definitely one of the more intriguing ones — at least from a visual perspective. With Square Enix’s Marvel’s Avengers being the publisher’s big fall release, it’s unlikely that we’ll see or hear much about this project until closer to 2021. What do you think of Project Athia so far?
