ATLANTA – Friday night marked the night where sports, in some way, returned to regular television with the WNBA Draft.
The first three picks of the draft this season were honorary picks for the WNBA. The selections in alphabetical order were Alyssa Altobelli, Gianna Bryant and Payton Chester.
Those were three of the many lives lost when the late-Kobe Bryant’s helicopter went down.
With teams at home due to COVID-19 the draft wasn’t held in a special location but it’s great that sports returned. The Atlanta Dream picked fourth in this year’s draft and were able to select Chennedy Carter.
Carter, a guard from Texas A&M, should complement the Dream’s rebuild but will have to manage those minor injury concerns that have cropped up with an injury to her ankle suffered before she declared for the draft. Carter missed seven games.
Throughout her career at Texas A&M, Carter averaged 22.5 points per game with 357 assists. She also showed well in rebounding with 368.
Carter followed up at No. 4 behind Sabrina Ionescu, Satou Sabally and Lauren Cox.
