Fundraising starts for Aylesbury rainbow sculpture

Fundraising has now begun for the planned rainbow sculpture at Stoke Mandeville Hospital.

We told you about Florence Nightingale Hospice's plans last week for the arch which would sit on the roundabout at the hospital's second entrance.

It would mirror the Paralympic 'agitos' at the main entrance.

Now the charity are looking for sponsorship for 17,000 tiles which will make up the arch.

The money will be split between the hospice and NHS charities.

An application to build the arch from FNHC says:

"There have been 300 deaths and 1,749 confirmed cases, with Aylesbury Vale having 45% of all Covid-19 cases in Buckinghamshire.

"Wider societal impacts are extensive. 63,000 local people have been furloughed from their jobs.

"90,000 pupils have been unable to go to school. All households have experienced lockdown.

"Yet through the crisis, the rainbow, clap for carers and the NHS were symbols of hope."

If the sculpture doesn't get permission, then the money would be refunded.
