SEND kids in Bucks asked for their views

The voices of young people with Special Educational Needs in Buckinghamshire are being heard.

Bucks Council is asking for their views and experiences - to help put a pack together to help others like them.

Events started this past week, with more on the way.

What are Buckinghamshire Council doing?

Young people with SEND will be asked to help the Council understand the information they need to access as they move through life, such as choosing school subjects, finding a college, getting work experience or a job, living independently and building healthy relationships.

BC really want to hear what ideas young people have for ways we can work together to make different types of information, like online short films and audio clips.

Any young person with SEND can take part - and the Council would like as many people to join events as possible.

They are welcome to bring parents or carers to join them at these online sessions.

Separate sessions are also being arranged for parents and carers to give their views and ideas on SEND information - details of these can be found below.

These can include subjects like employment and volunteering opportunities, internships and apprenticeships.

They can also cover areas like housing for young people, living independently, and living active and fulfilled lives within their communities.

Tony Green, Buckinghamshire Council's Cabinet Member for Youth Provision, said:

"It is vital that we offer the best information possible to young people with SEND, and that this information is clear, easy to access and fun and interesting to look at. To do that it is really important we hear the views and ideas of people with experiences of growing up in Buckinghamshire.

"We want them to tell us what is working well, what can be improved, and what ideas they may have for us to do things differently. This is the role of a Design Champion.

"We also really want to hear their stories and experiences - many of these will be tremendously inspirational to others and we'd love to share them if possible."
