Southern New Mexico Unsolved Murders is now a recognized nonprofit by the IRS and the State of New Mexico.
We received our first grant of $2,000 from Grant County Crime Stoppers earlier this year.
We have an account at Western Bank in Silver City.
We are raising money for the following:
- Rewards for individuals who provide tips that lead to the location of David Ortiz or Toni Padilla’s remains, and the arrest of anyone involved in or responsible for any of these murderers. We would like to offer rewards starting at $5,000.
- A billboard on Highway 180 between Hurley and Silver City, with the faces of some of the victims to remind people that these individuals are still missing and their cases remain unsolved. The price for this is estimated to be around $6,000 for one year.
- An anonymous tip line through We Tip, a California-based organization that works with local, state, federal and international law enforcement. An estimate from We Tip was approximately $2,500 for a one-year contract.
- The continued operation and maintenance of this website, and if needed, the cost of obtaining public records, autopsy, toxicology and determination of death reports from the Office of the New Mexico Medical Investigator, and research and investigations into the disappearances and unsolved murders of these victims. Set up cost for the website and domain name registration and renewals has been approximately $700., with estimated yearly ongoing costs of a few hundred dollars a year.
We need to raise at least $10,000 to begin to put these plans in place. We need your help. So do these families.
