It counts the same whether a record NBL Championship Series margin or a one-point loss with Adelaide 36ers coach Mike Wells not overreacting to Game 1 and glad to have six days to ahead of Friday's home Game 2.

The bad news for Wells and the 36ers is that their 44-point Game 1 loss to the Sydney Kings on Saturday night was the largest in NBL Championship Series history.

The good news is it's a five-game series and two of the four remaining games will be at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre, and it's that approach that Wells was taking afterwards.

There was a lot to not like from a Sixers point of view including scoring just 68 points on 35 per cent shooting, getting to the foul line six times and Isaac White top-scoring with 11 points while Flynn Cameron, DJ Vasiljevic and Zylan Cheatham combined for just 12 on 5/27 shooting.

Wells acknowledged the dominance of the Kings, but is glad to now have six days before Game 2 in Adelaide on Friday night.

"They got to the things that they wanted to get to tonight and you've gotta give them credit, and that's the way the thing went tonight, but it's only one game and there's no panic in me," Wells said.

"We have to go back and we have to regenerate our group, and get a little more organised, and we've played these guys pretty well through the regular season and have had a couple of tough endings in a couple of losses.

"It's probably not for us right now (a bad thing to have six days) and I'll take all the days off to regenerate and try to figure a few things out for our group, and try to set some things for Friday night."

The 36ers have played in front of sold out home crowds all season long at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre. That advantage was never more evident than in Game 3 of the Playoffs in the win over the South East Melbourne Phoenix.

Wells wants his team to again make the most of the atmosphere that is sure to be rabid as the locals do whatever they can to help their 36ers level the Championship Series.

"We have to bank on some of the positive things that we've done and we have to get back to find some of the rhythm that we had from the last series, and carry some things over, but we lost a game and now have to go home and protect home court.

"It's the playoffs, it's a series and it's just one game and now we have to move on and our goals are to go home and take care of our home court after they held home court in Game 1.

"We have to go home and take care of Game 2 and we know what the atmosphere is and what it's going to be like at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre after how unbelievable they were in the last series.

"We'll need all of that energy plus and we just need to win a home game and then it's 1-1, that's what you have to do in a playoff series."

There has been times throughout the second half of the season where Wells has elected to go with a small ball line-up where one of Isaac Humphries, Nick Rakocevic or Cheatham is out there with four guards.

That did again happen at times on Saturday night but it wasn’t by choice - it was through the foul trouble that forced Wells' hand.

One player from Adelaide who did appear up for the fight and capable of making a significant impact against the tide was Rakocevic too as soon as he hit the floor midway through the first quarter.

But he too was hindered with foul trouble and limited to 14 minutes.

"I didn’t try to switch line-ups because of style of play, I got chased out of it because I had guys in foul trouble," Wells said.

"I mean he's (Rakocevic) definitely a skilled individual and he's been playing great here down the stretch at the end of the regular season, and now into the playoffs.

"He had some moments where I thought he was going to get going and kinda set that game a little bit, and then he had a couple of fouls and that's going to knock your team out of a rhythm of what we've been doing.

"Unfortunately that was the deal and we just couldn’t get the rhythm and get what we wanted to do, and you give Sydney all the credit for that and being the aggressive team there, and they won that little match up there.

"I thought Nick was getting ready to do some good things but we just couldn’t keep it going."
