The Sydney Kings' earning home court saw them set back-to-back NBL record crowds and both Kendric Davis and Xavier Cooks are adamant those 18,589 in attendance were instrumental in securing Game 5 of the Championship Series in overtime.

It wasn’t just paying lip service to wanting home court advantage, but when the Kings found themselves down seven at three quarter-time in Sunday's Game 5 at Qudos Bank Arena, they needed that record 18,589 crowd.

Then as the Kings tried to mount a fightback, they roared to life and the noise was deafening when Davis scored with 35 seconds left to make it a two-point game, and when Tim Soares grabbed an offensive rebound and put it back to send the game to overtime.

Then in the extra period, the 36ers were rattled with the Kings feeding off their crowd that might well have been the loudest in NBL history given it was also the biggest.

Cooks has now won three rings in the last five years with the Kings, but never has he heard Qudos Bank Arena louder and he's never been more firm in the role they played in their triumph.

"We don't win that game without the crowd," Cooks said.

"Down what six points with 90 seconds to go, we hit a layup and you can just feel the energy, the momentum, the shift from there and I don’t think people understand the influence a crowd can have on a game with the momentum and being on the road feeling like everyone's against you.

"We don't get that done tonight without 18,000 people in the crowd yelling, screaming and making a great experience so thanks to everybody."

In so many ways, Davis has been the story of NBL26 given the way he left Adelaide and the bad blood there, the way he's grown into his role at the Kings and then even with the way he finished again as runner-up MVP to Bryce Cotton.

Then seeing him battle his former team and indeed Cotton in the Championship Series was quite the spectacle, but above all he has been fully embraced by everyone inside the Kings, and by the Sydney fan base.

He's also sure the crowd were significant in the title win.

"It feels great but 19,000 on a Sunday is unbelievable and we wanted to do it for our fans who showed up for us today," Davis said.

"You could see it in overtime them guys (Adelaide) were nervous when our crowd got going and there were some bobbles, and some missed free throws, and that comes from the crowd honestly.

"When the crowd gets going like that you can't hear the play calls and they say role players play better at home so when the crowd get going, the road players freeze up and there was a crucial time where I missed up a switch with DJ.

"He didn’t shoot it and I knew then that our crowd is into it because that shot is going up in Adelaide, and that's credit to our fan base.

"They came out and packed it out, they could be doing anything they want with their time or money, but they came to support us and we don't win without them, honestly. We just don't."

On top of the crowd, what has made Davis thrive to the degree he has with the Kings this season to end up as the runaway Larry Sengstock Trophy winner as Championship Series MVP is the way the club has embraced him.

Whether it's legendary coach Brian Goorjian, veteran teammates like Cooks and Matthew Dellavedova, Torrey Craig, Tim Soares and Shaun Bruce or his contemporaries like Jaylin Galloway and Makuach Maluach, Davis has found everything he didn’t have in Adelaide.

Davis still doesn’t like that all the blame for the Sixers' turmoil of NBL25 was laid at his feet, but he'll be forever thankful for the faith the Kings have shown him.

"In life relationships won't always be great and you never want to be determined off one bad relationship, and that's what it felt like was happening," Davis said.

"Whether it was my fault, they fault, I think it was both our fault of why it didn’t work (in Adelaide) and just for me to get all the blame, and I couldn’t even click on Instagram or I'd see all the hateful things but these guys just kept on uplifting me.

"It was at a point where I hated Australian media and that's why I never came in here (to the press conference) and why I stayed away, but I fell in love with basketball again because of these people right here on this table.

"Even during this series, I got off social media and I didn’t even have to look to know there's some hate going on and it helped me having guys like Delly and X who have been through a lot.

"Delly played in the NBA Finals so it's nothing he hasn’t seen and X has won before here, and coach has been here forever so they helped me.

"You don't find too many organisation that don't believe the hype and do their own research, and they did that and I'm a loyalty guy so that means the world to me."
