Lenovo is a Chinese company that’s been in the PC space for 40 years now. It’s the company behind iconic business laptops like the Lenovo ThinkPad (remember the keyboard nub?), Legion-branded gaming PCs, accessories like docks and smart glasses, affordable laptops like the Lenovo Ideapad 3, and as of last year, the Lenovo Legion Go handheld PC.

Some of their products, like the IdeaPad Flex 5i and the Lenovo Yoga 9i, are so well-designed that they’ve made it to the top of our best laptop guides. Not all of Lenovo’s experiments—like the ThinkBook Plus—pan out, but there have been plenty of hits, like the Lenovo Yoga Book 9i and the Tab P11 Pro tablet.

Our 5 favorite Lenovo products

IdeaPad Flex 5i

The 2023 IdeaPad Flex 5i is a great 2-in-1 laptop packed with features usually reserved for higher-end laptops at a budget price. At $850 it’s priced competitively, cheaper than top-tier models like the Lenovo Yoga 9i or HP Spectre 14, but a step up from budget 2-in-1s like the HP Pavilion line.

The blue chassis looks and feels like something more at home on a $1,000 laptop. While you won’t get the OLED display or excellent sound system found on the Yoga 9i, you will get comparable performance at a much lower price.

Legion Slim 5

The Lenovo Legion Slim 5 in front of a background. — The Lenovo Legion Slim 5 has a great screen, with excellent color accuracy and deep black levels.

Gaming laptops are notorious for prioritizing performance over practicality, but the 2024 Legion Slim 5 bucks the trend with a sleek form factor that packs a surprising amount of power.

The 0.8-inch body is still large enough to house a mobile Nvidia RTX 4060 graphics card and goes head-to-head with much more expensive gaming laptops like the Razer Blade 14. But despite the demanding internals and sub-four-pound weight, the Legion Slim 5 has 8.5 hours of battery life as well as a vibrant 120Hz OLED display and sturdy aluminum chassis. It shares more in common with a MacBook than a typical gaming laptop.

The best part? The configuration we reviewed often goes on sale for as low as $1,000 at Best Buy, undercutting competitors like the Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 by several hundred dollars.

Yoga Book 9i

The Lenovo Yoga Book 9i in front of a background. — We loved the versatility of the Yoga Book 9i.

Foldable laptops and dual-screened laptops have moved from niche products into the mainstream over the last few years. The 2023 Yoga Book 9i is Lenovo’s spin on the concept: A laptop with two 2,880 x 1,800 OLED touch displays stuck together by a hinge.

You can use it like a regular laptop with an on-screen keyboard or with the included detachable wireless keyboard, or you can play with the form factor and hold the laptop like a book or prop it up to create a dual monitor setup. While the Book 9i’s internal hardware specs aren’t impressive for the price, it performs well enough to handle most productivity tasks flawlessly. It keeps up with more conventional 2-in-1 laptops like the Yoga 9i or the HP Spectre without costing twice as much (like the Asus Zenbook Fold).

The Yoga Book 9i’s not the only player in the game. The Asus Zenbook Duo offers a similar experience with comparable hardware specs, and it retails for $500 less than the Book 9i (as long as you don’t mind downgrading to 1,920 x 1,200 displays). But the Yoga Book 9i is a few months older than the Zenbook Duo, which means you can find it at a discount, and it currently matches the Zenbook Duo in price.

Yoga 9i Gen 8

The Lenovo Yoga 9i Gen 8 in front of a background. — The Yoga 9i Gen 8 is a well-rounded laptop with one of the best touchscreens available.

Now that it’s been out for over a year, it’s easy to find the 2023 Yoga 9i Gen 8 for about a thousand dollars—a steal for a premium laptop with a phenomenal keyboard and trackpad, sound system, included stylus, 4K 90Hz OLED display, and outstanding build quality.

The sub-9-hour battery life and middling performance hold it back from being our favorite 2-in-1, but the pros more than make up for the setbacks. If you’re an artist or you just want to take a lot of handwritten notes, you might appreciate that the Yoga 9i’s stylus looks like a classic No. 2 pencil and handles almost as smoothly as the real thing.

2-in-1s can sometimes have an awkward stylus experience, but working with the Yoga 9i feels more like working with an Apple Pencil or a Samsung Galaxy Tablet rather than a laptop with a tacked-on touch screen.

The Yoga 9i’s user experience remains one of the best among laptops even a year after its release.

Legion Go

The Lenovo Legion Go. — The Lenovo Legion Go has an impressive screen and comes with a carrying case.

With stiff competition from the Steam Deck OLED and Asus ROG Ally Z1 Extreme, the Lenovo Legion Go has a lot to accomplish if it hopes to be the top handheld PC for gamers.

As it is, the Legion Go does have a lot of selling points. The 8.8-inch 2K display is by far the largest and most pixel-dense display of the three handhelds, the detachable Nintendo Switch-like controllers are still one of the most unique and interesting takes on the form factor, and its performance is among the best on the market. However, its larger screen is also its downfall—the Legion Go is a half-pound heavier than the Steam Deck and ROG Ally, making it harder to travel with and more awkward to hold in your hands.

It’s far from perfect, but so are the Steam Deck and ROG Ally. With the announcement of the Legion Go 2, we’re hopeful that we’ll see a more refined version that not only keeps up but rather obliterates its competition with better battery life, more first person shooter-focused features, and an OLED display to give it the edge it needs to claim the top spot among handheld PCs.

The Legion Go offers a larger, sharper alternative to the Steam Deck and Asus ROG Ally.

The 2024 Lenovo Yoga Slim 7x seems like a promising successor to the current Slim 7. With a 90Hz, 14.5-inch OLED display, a unibody aluminum chassis only .51 inches thick, and a weight under 3 pounds, it could be a great Snapdragon-powered productivity laptop for those who need to travel light.
