First or third person?

Imagine if you went to a networking event and when someone introduced himself he said “Adam is a LinkedIn expert and author who’s published 3 Amazon bestsellers.”

At best you’d think he was a little odd and more than a little arrogant. You’d quickly find someone else to talk to, and who could blame you?

So, it’s hard to understand why anyone would still write their own LinkedIn profile in the third person.

They certainly wouldn’t publish posts written in the third person yet we still see plenty of About Sections done that way.

For sure, writing in the third person can certainly come across as crisp and objective. That may work well on a resume or corporate bio but it fails miserably to warmly and personally engage your LinkedIn audience.

LinkedIn isn’t a formal report. It’s a place to start and grow mutually beneficial business relationships.

Maybe some people see this issue differently. We all have our own points of view.

What’s your preference for LinkedIn Profiles - 1st or 3rd person?
