On your portfolio and in your collections, all content items have a preview image. How to edit the preview image is described here.
Authory automatically generates a preview image based on the content you added. However, you can upload your own custom preview image anytime. In this guide, you'll find details regarding the optimal sizes and image ratios.
First of all, the ideal thumbnail size depends on the content layout you've selected for your portfolio or the respective collection. Authory offers four different content layouts, three of which have image previews. You can edit the content layout by going to your portfolio or collection and selecting "Content layout" in the top bar:
Each content layout has an ideal size and ratio for the preview images. You'll find the details for each layout below.
Grid layout
Depending on your screen size, the thumbnail is rendered as maximum 468x209px. That's an image ratio of 2,24:1. If you want to upload a new preview image that looks great in the Grid view, keep the following in mind:
Image should be at least 468px wide and 209px high. To make sure that it looks also great on high-resolution screens, upload a picture with at least twice the dimensions, so that's at least 936px wide and 418px high.
If you upload an image with the ratio of 2,24:1, then it will not be cropped and look exactly as you uploaded it.
Stacked layout
Depending on your screen size, the thumbnail is rendered as maximum 760x244px. That's an image ratio of 3,11:1. If you want to upload a new preview image that looks great in the stacked view, keep the following in mind:
Image should be at least 760px wide and 244px high. To make sure that it looks also great on high-resolution screens, upload a picture with at least twice the dimensions, so that's at least 1520px wide and 488px high.
If you upload an image with the ratio of 3,11:1, then it will not be cropped and look exactly as you uploaded it.
List layout
Depending on your screen size, the thumbnail is rendered as maximum 208x156px. That's an image ratio of 1,33:1. If you want to upload a new preview image that looks great in the Grid view, keep the following in mind:
Image should be at least 208px wide and 156px high. To make sure that it looks also great on high-resolution screens, upload a picture with at least twice the dimensions, so that's at least 416px wide and 312px high.
If you upload an image with the ratio of 1,33:1, then it will not be cropped and look exactly as you uploaded it.
