How to add content to a collection

Collections are a great way to curate your content, whether that's on your portfolio or by using collections as standalone "mini portfolios".

There are two ways to add content to a collection: By importing new content that's not in your Authory account yet, or by adding content from your Content Archive.

How to add previously imported content to a collection

In this example, let's assume you created a new collection called "TechCrunch" on your portfolio. It's currently empty, and you'll see a button labelled "Add content to this collection".

Click the button and then click "Select content from my Content Archive":

Next you can decide whether you want to manually select one or more items from your archive, or whether you want to use filters to automatically populate a collection:

In our example, you want to add all articles from the source TechCrunch to the collection you named "TechCrunch". Doing that by selecting the articles manually is too much work, so you'll use the filters instead:

You'll need to select the Sources filter, and then "TechCrunch" from the list of all sources. After saving, the collection will be instantly populated with all articles from TechCrunch:

Good to know: There is a cool shortcut to creating a collection with filters.

  • Go to your Content Archive and apply the filters you have in mind on the left (in the example, we select "TechCrunch" as a source filter).

  • As soon as you've selected any filter, you'll see a link appearing next to the search bar labelled "Create automated collection".

  • Click this link and you'll create a new collection with all content based on your filter settings.

How to import new content to a collection

In this example, let's assume you created a new collection called "My favourite pieces". It's currently empty, so you'll only see the button "Add content to this collection":

Let say you want to import an article that's not been imported to our Authory account before, so you'll need to select "Import or upload new content":

Now you can decide what type of content you'd like to upload. For articles, podcasts and YouTube videos, you can use Authory's automagic import: We'll find and import your pieces automatically, even if it's many thousands.

In this example, you want to add a single article. That's why you'll select "Article" and then "I have the URLs of the articles I want to import".

You add the URL of the article you want to import, and because you haven't imported anything from that website before, you are asked to give this new source a name.

Good to know: For all new sources, Authory will automatically find and import new articles based on your byline.

Once you confirm, the article appears in the collection you created right away, and you can continue importing more items (or adding existing items from your Content Archive of course.

Note: Everything that you import to your Authory account, no matter to which collection, will always be added to your Content Archive. That means no matter in how many collections you want to use a content item, you'll never have to import it again after the first time.
